Swim Teachers for the Future Project

The Project – Active Tameside deliver school swimming and a community learn 2 swim programme to over 4000 members over the six pool sites within Tameside, all lessons are delivered by ASA qualified level 2 teachers who are vastly experienced.

We are launching a new exciting project to develop our workforce of the future by giving successful candidates the chance to become qualified at ASA level 1 & 2 underpinned by learning through on the job training

On completion of training and after gaining the relevant experience you will be placed on our casual data base of swimming teachers and informed of any part/full time posts should they become available at any of our centres.

The Role – Active Tameside will provide funding up to the value of £1080 for successful candidates to undertake ASA teaching awards at level 1 & 2, both awards will be completed within 12 months of being accepted on the programme.  You will be mentored by existing teachers and will have regular appraisals with the Active Tameside swimming development officer to help you on your way to becoming fully qualified.

Interested? – You must be 16 or over and interested in swimming with a view to pursuing a career in the Aquatics industry, the scheme will operate on volunteer hour’s payback basis meaning you will commit to an agreed number of volunteer hours on a weekly basis which will be formalised through a signed training agreement from both parties.

Active Tameside will also provide you with a staff uniform and a FREE staff Gym membership for the 12 month period of the training programme

Activity Coach – Swimming

Salary

£16969 p.a. pro rata for part time – Level 2

£14591.51p.a. pro rata for part time – Level 1

Contract Type 
Hours6 hours per week – Saturday and Sunday
Location:Active Ashton

The hours are 8.45am-12.15pm on Saturday & 12.15pm-2.45pm on Sunday.

You will be responsible for delivering private swimming lessons as part of the swimming instruction programme and maintenance of records and supervising customers using the pool.

As a minimum requirement, you will hold the ASA Swimming Teachers Certificate Level 2 and a current RLSS Pool Lifeguard Foundation Module (8th) Edition.

Experience of class organisation and control together with confidence in dealing with adults and children is essential.  Strong communication skills and customer relations plus the ability to work on your own initiative and motivate others are essential.  You must have excellent customer care skills and knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety procedures.

The successful post holders will be enthusiastic and highly motivated individual and will provide an efficient and effective reception service to all customers. This will include: promoting the facilities services and programmes to increase sales, take bookings, and receive cash, issue tickets and deal with customer enquiries.

Previous experience in dealing with enquiries in a customer service environment both face to face and by telephone is essential. To be successful you would need to demonstrate effective communication, literacy and numeracy skills, excellent presentation and customer focus skills and know how to handle and account for cash.

The successful post holder will be expected to work flexibility to respond effectively to business needs and issues when they arise.
