Little Bikers sessions will be available in schools from 9th October. The sessions will provide a fundamental starting point for children’s cycling, involving a variety of fun activities that will build confidence and spatial awareness, as well as improving balance skills. Little Bikers sessions will teach children to cycle without the need for stabilisers.
Sessions are aimed at children aged from 2 and a half years up to 6 years old, with the aim of providing a natural lead into ‘Bikeability’ sessions. They will be available to schools, with the flexibility to have a one-off session or a series of sessions over a term.
6 sessions ideal for improvement
Ideally, 6 x 1 hour sessions should see an improvement in a child’s cycling ability. The sessions can be delivered in a school hall initially, moving outside to the school playground after children have gained confidence. Each Little Bikers session can accommodate up to 32 children.
Little Bikers will be available to have in schools between 9th October – 15th December 2017 and 15th January – 23rd March 2018, at times convenient to each school. The cost for a 1 hour session will be £75, with 6 x 1 hour sessions costing £400. Prices include 15 pre-pedal bikes, 15 helmets and all equipment.
Adapted to individual needs
PE Coordinator, Ryan Bardsley, from St John Fisher RC Primary School, said, ‘Our sessions were great, especially for some of our children who were able to have their first experience on a bike. Each session was thoroughly planned, adapted to individual needs and was enjoyable for all children taking part, whilst delivering specific learning outcomes.’
