Inspiring people to live well and feel great

Active Tameside achieves ‘Excellent’ rated Quest accreditation

Active Tameside’s ‘Live Well’ service has achieved an ‘Excellent’ rating from Quest, the UK quality scheme for sport and leisure. This is Quest’s highest rating, which is a welcome improvement on last year’s ‘Good’ grading.

To achieve the accreditation, the Active Tameside teams had to provide evidence of their successful delivery in 7 different areas, including their work with communities, education programmes, disability sessions, swimming and gymnastics activities.

Increasing participation in physical activity

One of the areas that the team excelled in was ‘Increasing participation and reducing inactivity’. The assessment report stated Active Tameside has, ‘Clearly evolved from a trust operating sports centres, to an organisation that offers a diverse range of support and delivery functions that, in turn, help to address a number of equality and health and wellbeing areas that help to improve the lives of residents.’

The assessment also involved producing evidence of contributing to the long term impact on physical and mental wellbeing, personal development and social and community development. The resulting ‘Excellent’ rating has reinforced Active Tameside’s values of moving people from being inactive to active.

Making a difference to people’s lives

Mark Tweedie, Chief Executive of Active Tameside, said ‘I am delighted that the hard work and caring approach of our people has been acknowledged by achieving Quest Excellent status. Active Tameside exemplifies the work of progressive charitable leisure trusts, who are making a huge difference to the lives of people, many of which need the opportunities and support we provide to move into and sustain an active lifestyle.’

Active Tameside has successfully supported PE and sport in the majority of Tameside schools for over 15 years, engaging over 7,000 young people per week. Their team of experienced sports and physical activity development officers deliver a range of services to support schools, through an enhanced programme of excellent services.
