Active Tameside was awarded ‘Outstanding Organisation of the Year’ at the ukactive Awards, which took place on 21st June at Manchester Central, as part of the Active Uprising event. The fiercely competitive Awards cover the sports and physical activity sector and this year’s winners represent the leading performers from the private, public and third sectors.
Upon being announced as winner of the ‘Outstanding Organisation of the Year’ Award, which is the most coveted award in the sector, Active Tameside were described as ‘an organisation who have been assessed on their overall performance, sustainability and impact in the sector.’
Shaun Higgins, Head of Inclusion & Diversity at Active Tameside, said: “I feel really proud to be part of Active Tameside, having won Outstanding Organisation of the Year at the ukactive Awards, especially living and working in Tameside. We have started the journey to reduce inactivity in Tameside and, due to the great people within Active Tameside, our partners and stakeholders; this is something that will continue at pace.”
More than 800 people attended the Awards evening, which was co-hosted by Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Chair of ukactive. The Awards received a high level of entries, which were judged in multiple stages. Active Tameside were shortlisted for 5 other Awards, which led to them being put forward for Outstanding Organisation of the Year.
