Fitness information

We will be making some changes to our health and fitness activities over the next 2 months. Please read the information below to find out what will be changing and which procedures will remain in place.

Face masks

Face masks will not be mandatory, however we encourage you to wear one whilst walking through our buildings, spectating and where possible.

Membership Access Changes

We would like to update you, from Monday 1st November 2021, we will be reverting back to pre-covid access procedures. Please read below on how this will impact you, if you are unsure on any information provided please email: membership@activetameside.com

Single Site Memberships

For all members who signed up post September 2019 onto one of the following agreements, from Monday 1st November 2021, your membership access will return to single site. You will only have access to the home club selected upon sign-up.

  • Active Juniors
  • Active Teen Triple
  • Active Student
  • Active+ Off-Peak
  • Active Dual – Two of: Gym, Swim, Group Exercise (Membership option no longer available) or Spa.
  • Active Triple – Three of: Gym, Swim, Group Exercise or Spa (Membership category no longer available).

Pre-September 2019 Members

For all members who signed up to one of the following historic membership (Pre September 2019), from Monday 1st November 2021, your membership access will return to multi-site (Excluding Tameside Wellness Centre). You will still continue to have access to all other Active Tameside centres.

  • Active Dual – Two of: Gym, Swim, Group Exercise or Spa.
  • Active+ Off-Peak

Active Oxford Park Members

Active Oxford Park will remain closed to the public until further notice. As an Active Oxford Park member, you will continue to have upgraded access to all Active Tameside centres (excluding Active iTrain), at no extra cost.

Active Medlock Members

Active Medlock members will continue to have temporary access to all Active Tameside centres (excluding Active iTrain), at no extra cost due to the vulnerable services that we provide in-centre. Please familiarise yourself with Gym, Swimming and Access procedures below.

Active Premier & New Corporate Members

This alteration will not impact Active Premier or New Active Corporate Members (Post September 2019).

Active iTrain Members

This alteration will not impact Active iTrain members.

Lane Swim Changes

As from Monday 27th September you will no longer need to book for a lane swim session (excluding Active Medlock, see below). Just turn up, check-in with reception and enjoy! There will be capacity limitations on how many swimmers we allow into the pool and will be done on a first come, first serve basis.

Our pool timetable, including capacities are available via our Active Tameside app and website.

We will be looking at the pool programmes to ensure you have more availability to swim. Keep an eye out for updates on our website, app and social media.

Active Medlock – Lane Swimming (Remains Bookable)

Active Medlock will still operate with Lane Swim bookings due to the vulnerable services that are provided at the centre. These services are provided between 8.30am-3.45pm throughout the week, when attending a pre-booked lane swim session during these times, please enter through the pool side entrance where you will be checked in by a member of the team.

If you are attending lane swim sessions outside of these times, please use the main entrance. All booking procedures will remain the same.

Group Exercise Changes

From Monday 27th September, we will be removing the maximum 7 classes per week booking rule, to provide you with a greater opportunity to attend more group exercise classes.

Our group exercise class occupancy is now back to pre-covid numbers, health & safety permitting. You can book your classes here.

Booking Procedure & Cancellation Policy

  • You can now book more than 7 group exercise classes per week.
  • Group exercise classes will remain bookable via our app and online.
  • The rolling booking system will remain in place. You will be able to book 8 days (7 days for casual members) in advance, from the session start time.
  • All group exercise classes will have a waitlist when fully booked. If you are on the waitlist and a space becomes available, you will automatically be added to the session up until 60 minutes before the session start time. If you are unable to attend a session, please remove yourself from the waitlist to avoid any strikes.
  • Our 2 strike rule will remain in place. If you fail to attend, or cancel a session within 3 hours you will be given a strike. Strikes last 30 days on your account, if you receive 2 strikes you will receive an 8-day booking ban.
  • Please ensure you swipe your membership card or scan your fingerprint when entering the studio, to register your attendance in your class.

Gym Access

Gym bookings have now been removed and you no longer have to pre-book. You will be able to come to your centre, during their specified gym opening times and access the fitness suite using your membership card or fingerpoint scanner.

Please view our updated procedures:

  • Users must use membership card to swipe or fingerpoint to access the gym through the door or turnstile – this will register you as attended. Even if someone is kind enough to hold the door open for you – please just swipe, make sure it goes green and you’re registered!
  • Users must continue to wipe down equipment before and after use
  • Even though social distancing has eased please be mindful of other people’s personal space
  • Please return equipment back it its rightful place
  • When the gym is busy please be mindful of the length of time you spend on equipment

Active Medlock Access and Opening Times

Please ensure that you have left the gym no later than the session finish times provided below.

Please be aware that during 08:30-15:30 throughout the week, you MUST come Gym ready as there are no changing facilities available. You must enter with the concierge and exit through the gym fire exit during these times.  

Please note we still have various vulnerable cohorts using Medlocks gym facilities. We therefore advise you to check your gym opening times before coming to centre, which are available here:

Monday: 06:30-22:00

Tuesday: 06:30-08:30 / 12:00-13:00 / 15:45-22:00

Wednesday: 06:30-08:30 / 12:00-14:00 / 15:45-22:00

Thursday: 06:30-08:30 / 12:00-13:00 / 15:45-22:00

Friday: 06:30-22:00

Saturday: 08:30-18:00

Sunday: 08:30-18:00

Active iTrain & Tameside Wellness Centre

Both these facilities are open 24/7.

General Swim Sessions

General and lane swimming (including Fun 4 All / Inflatable Fun), are casual activities on a pay-as-you-go basis.

If you are a member that has swimming included in your membership, general and lane swimming are included (excluding Fun 4 All / Inflatable Fun). Thesea are not pre-bookable sessions. There will be capacity limitations on how many swimmers we allow into the pool and will be done on a first come, first serve basis.

Changing facilities

Shower facilities are available and we have increased the changing room capacity. We still encourage you to arrive gym ready or beach ready for your sessions to reduce the number of people in our changing rooms at any given time. Sanitising wipes are available and self-sanitising is strongly recommended.

Thermal suites

Our thermal suites are now open, with capacity limit recommendations that we encourage you to adhere to.

Crèches

Crèche has now re-opened. Sessions are available at Active Copley, Active iTrain (Soft Play Zone) and Tameside Welllness Centre.  Book now for Crèche, here.

Please note – Active iTrain has now changed its booking system for Crèche, you will no longer be required to book via the ‘Membr’ App and will be able to do so using our app or online.

Outdoor football pitches

Bookings for our outdoor football pitches are available on the app and online. You are required to scan in to track & trace upon arrival to the pitches.

Squash and badminton courts

There are no restrictions on who you can play squash or badminton with when using our courts. Book now via our app and online.

Booking and cancellation procedures

We will continue to employ a two-strike rule for cancelling group exercise classes. This means that if you cancel a group exercise class within three hours of the session starting or you fail to attend your booked session, a strike will be added to your account and it will stay on your account for 30 days. If you then get a second strike, you won’t be able to book a session for eight days. Your account will refresh after your 8-day booking ban.

We will continue to have waiting lists in place. Please remember to check your emails or the Active Tameside app if you’re on the waiting list for a session, as they will let you know if you have managed to get onto the desired session. This will now only happen up to one hour before the session start time. From 60 minutes to 5 minutes before the start of the session, please check our app or website to see if any slots have become available and book as normal. If you are on a waiting list but can no longer attend the session, please remove yourself from the waiting list so that you don’t get automatically placed onto the session when a space becomes available.
