Since reopening, we have continued to work hard to make our centres as safe and welcoming as possible, and we’re really pleased to see you back.
We have new changes in place, including timetables, centre opening times and safety measures, to help everyone enjoy their time with us safely.
Please read the important information below about our new opening times, timetables, booking procedures and safety measures.
Thank you and see you soon,
The Active Tameside Team
You can book gym sessions, lane swims and classes online up to 8 days in advance, with the exception of Active iTrain, where you can book classes up to 7 days in advance and you won’t have to book for the gym (however there will be a capacity limit at Active iTrain of 68 people in the gym). The gym at Tameside Wellness Centre in Denton is open 24/7 and does not need to be booked between the hours of 10pm – 5am.
If you do not have a membership with us, you can register as a casual user to book and pay for sessions online in advance. You can find out how to do this here.
Please note that parents are unable to accompany their children into the building unless they have booked on to the same session as them.
We kindly request that you wear a face mask whilst moving through our centres or spectating. If you forget to bring a mask, you can purchase one at reception. The following exclusions apply:
Our gyms at our centres are open. We have made changes to the layouts of our gym floors to enable you to use the equipment at a safe distance from others.
We have safely distanced our swimming lanes so you can get into the water without a worry!
We have reduced the capacity of our group exercise classes to ensure there is a safe distance between you and other members. We will also be sanitising any equipment and areas between each class.
Our fitness changing rooms will reopen on Monday 7th September (excluding Active Ken Ward and Active Oxford Park), with measures in place to keep you safe. Please arrive ready dressed to workout.
Changing rooms are open for swimmers, with alternate showers available for rinsing only.
Our swimming lessons for Swim School stages 1-5 started back on Monday 14th September 2020. We introduced new procedures and safety measures, which vary from centre to centre – please carefully read the procedures for your centre, along with payment details and terms & conditions, here.
Unfortunately, the following lessons are not yet due to start back: Little Ducks, Swim School stages 6 and above, Swim Academy, disability lessons and Junior Lifeguard. We will continue to asses capacity, with a view to restarting these sessions as soon as its safe to do so. You can find a list of local aquatic clubs here.
Gymnastics lessons for stages 1 – 8; mixed; badge groups; advanced and competition levels will be restarting from Monday 21st September at Active Ken Ward. We will resume collecting Direct Debit payments on 1st October 2020, giving the opportunity to try out a lesson for free before payments restart. If paying in blocks, any credits that are outstanding will be carried over and begin from 1st October.
Due to current government guidelines, we are unable to resume our Gym Tots, Tiny Tumblers and Little Tumblers gymnastics sessions, as well as lessons at Active Copley and Active Oxford Park, in phase three of our reopening plans. We will be continually assessing our centre capacities in line with government and British Gymnastics guidelines, with a view to restarting these sessions as soon as it is safe to do so.
Safety is our main priority and we can assure you that we will be following guidelines from British Gymnastics, as well as implementing strict safety procedures.
You do not need to book to access the gym at Active iTrain. Instead, capacity is limited to 68 people at any one time. After this limit is reached, you will need to wait outside until another member leaves the gym. You can check how many people are in the gym before you attend, both here and via our app.
Access to group exercise classes is via the Soft Play Zone entrance only and all classes must be booked in advance.
We are committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff, members and community and we have worked hard to ensure your centre is a safe and enjoyable space. As part of our commitment to keeping you safe, we have invested in state-of-the-art fogging machines for our centres.
It is important that you familiarise yourself with our new safety measures before visiting our centres;
Due to the return of school swimming lessons at our pools from 7th September 2020, there has been a reduction in the number of lane swimming sessions available. Our private swimming lessons later commenced on 14th September 2020.
Please check our app or website to view the updated lane swimming timetables for our centres, and to pre-book your sessions. We will continue to regularly review our pool programmes in line with government guidelines and national governing body regulations around social distancing restrictions and changing facilities, to maximise the opportunities for you to swim with us going forward. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we hope to see you soon.
