On Saturday 8th March, we were proud to host the second Tameside 5k & Family Mile event at our Community Cycle Circuit in Ashton. The event was a success, with 240 people taking part in the 5k races and 42 completing the Family Mile.
The event was run in partnership with Local Runners Podcast, and the 5k involved completing just over 5 laps of the flat, fast, traffic-free course at the Cycle Circuit. All abilities were catered for at the event, with races split into estimated finish times, from beginners right up to elite athletes.
Gavin Browne, Head of Active Education at Active Tameside, said: “It has been amazing to organise a local event in Tameside for runners of varying abilities. The closed loop at Tameside Cycle Circuit is a safe space for the local community to come and keep active and enjoy themselves. Incorporating a family mile has been a great addition and the atmosphere on the day was amazing. A huge thank you to our partner, Local Runners Podcast, for their support organising the event and we are already looking forward to planning the next one!”
The event received some great feedback from those who took part and we’re looking forward to when it returns (date to be confirmed).
“Cheers for organising such a brilliant and improved event. Was wonderful and inspirational to see so many parts of the running community come together.”
“Thanks for such a well organised, enjoyable event – loved it and will definitely do it again.”
“Thanks for putting on a great event. Brought my mother along to spectate me race for the first time and she loved it too.”
