Active Tameside wins Inclusion and Disability Award at the ukactive Awards
Active Tameside’s Everybody Can services have been awarded the Inclusion & Disability Award at the largest ever national ukactive Awards. The Awards evening took place on Thursday 6th June at Manchester Central, where the winners of all 23 categories were announced.
Each of the award finalists underwent a rigorous independent assessment process designed to select the best in each category from hundreds of entrants. The winners were then selected by a special jury chaired by Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Chair of ukactive’s Board of Directors. Active Tameside are proud to have won the award, following their 2018 success, when they won ukactive Outstanding Organisation of the Year.
Active Tameside’s Everybody Can services fundamentally change lives, either for individuals or for families, by transforming the conventional leisure and service offer into a vehicle to address the social care time bomb. The high quality, accessible services for people in Tameside provide the opportunity for education, employment, respite, life skills development and independence.
Services are delivered for young people and adults with a disability or additional needs, removing barriers to enable everyone to access activities. This allows people to reach their potential and improves their health, wellbeing and independence, whilst engaging them in activities within their local community. Service users take part in Active Tameside centre programmes, including adult social care, community disability sports clubs, community outreach support, holiday camps and bespoke membership packages.
ukactive acting CEO, Huw Edwards, said: “Congratulations not just to all of the fantastic award winners, but to every finalist and entrant, all of whom are fantastic examples of the extraordinary work we do as a sector to get more people, more active, more often.”
