Swimming Pool Child Admission Policy

Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult aged 16 years or over at all times in the ratio of 2 to 1.

Any non-swimmers or weak swimmers, despite their age, may be required to stay in the shallow end of the pool. Every swimmer’s ability and admission into deep water is at the pool attendant’s and management discretion.

Pool Swimwear Guidance

Please take time to read our swimwear guidance document, available here.

Lane Swim Etiquette

Help us to help you enjoy your swim, take time to read our Lane Swim Etiquette.

By following these rules, we can keep everything flowing smoothly in each lane and improve everyone’s experience:

  • Are you in the right lane? – before you get in, have a look at the speed of the swimmers in the lane and pick a lane that is of a similar speed to you.
  • Swim in the right direction – check which direction the lane is moving, clockwise or anti-clockwise boards will be displayed at the end of the lanes.
  • Don’t be offended – the lifeguards may ask you to change lanes if you are slower or faster than the rest of the swimmers in the lane.
  • Stay tucked in – swim next to the ropes and leave the centre of the lane clear as this allows room for other swimmers to overtake.
  • Let faster swimmer’s pass – wait until you reach the end of the pool, pull to the side and let all the faster swimmers behind past before continuing to swim.
  • Let faster swimmers start first – don’t start swimming in front of faster swimmers, let them all past before you begin. If you are being regularly passed, then you might want to consider moving into a slower lane.
  • Allow space between swimmers – Wait 5 seconds before setting off so there is a gap between you and the swimmer in front. Do not ride the feet of the swimmer in front of you if they are going slower.
  • Overtaking – be considerate, leave plenty of space, overtake in the centre of the lane and then pull back in next to the rope to allow others to pass if needed, or pass at the wall when the swimmer in front pulls in.
  • Resting – stop at the end of the lane and move as far to the side of the lane as possible to make sure you don’t get in the way of continuous swimmers
  • Swim aids – fins and hard plastic paddles are not permitted when there are other swimmers in the lane. Webbed gloves, floats and pull buoys are allowed, just consider your change in speed and lane choice.
  • Drinks – You may wish to rehydrate, so you can bring a bottle of water with you, but no glass bottles or sugary drinks.
  • Ask for help – if something can be done to improve your experience, please speak to a lifeguard

Do you charge for car parking?

Tameside Wellness Centre – Denton’s car park has 109 parking bays available on a ‘Pay and Display’ system and a coach/bus bay. It operates as a Zone 1 parking facility, with charges of £2 for up to 3 hours, £4 for all day, and £1 for 6pm to midnight and anytime on a Sunday. The current machines take cash & contactless payments, you will need to input your number plate at the machine.

Car parking charges are needed to encourage people to use public transport, cycle or walk and help tackle congestion, pollution and encourage residents to be more active. The site has secure cycle storage and is well served by a number of bus routes. The more vehicles we can encourage from being driven, the cleaner the air we all breathe and the healthier the environment we live in, as befits the ethos of a wellness centre.

As a town centre site, the charges will also prevent users of other car parks from filling the centre’s car park for free, while Zone 1 parking provides a low cost parking solution for those who do need to use their vehicle, without having a detrimental impact on the number of visitors.

The parking system is managed and regulated by Tameside Council to ensure sufficient parking places for visitors to the site, with the income used to offset the cost of managing and monitoring the site.

Are there parking charges for blue badge holders?

The same standard charges apply as with all other Tameside pay and display car parks for blue badge holders. More information can be found here.

live your best life.

My family experienced the Hyper Bowling last week. My children absolutely loved it and wouldn’t stop talking about it, it was such great fun & good how any age can win. I was impressed by the price and how clean everywhere was…

Lee Napier

The staff! I’d still use Active Hyde’s gym if the facilities were rubbish and the price was high. There is always a cheerful person on hand to provide help and advice, both on site and on the phone.

Mark

10/10 great facilities and location. Excellent instructors and friendly staff.

Janet

The gym and reception staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, always happy to assist… I would highly recommend the gym to anyone who is looking for a friendly, professionally run gym with a great atmosphere that caters to all ages and abilities.

Mary Heaney

I am grateful to the staff at Tameside Wellness Centre for understanding my difficulties, especially since they are invisible. But believing and supporting and being kind to me has made me more determined to continue with my passion for life and remaining active as best as I can…
